Protection Officer Recertification

  • Complete by June 2023 - Practical Infield Assessments
  • Complete by 30 March 2023 – Online Assessments

What must I complete to be recertified?

You need to have completed the following:

  1. Safety Critical Communication training (if you have not already gained this unit of competency)
  2. Online assessment for your respective PO level (PO level 1 to 4)
  3. Practical infield ASB Assessment

Safety Critical Communication training

Safety Critical Communication training has been available since 2018. POs must complete TLIF0008 - Apply Safety Critical Communication in the Rail Corridor prior to 30 March 2023.
Note: Statement of Attainment (SOA) must state it is issued for training materials licensed by TfNSW.

Online Assessment

POs must complete the online assessment for which they require to be recertified (PO level 1 to 4) via Rail Industry Worker (RIW) portal.

Practical Assessment

The Worksite Protection core process will be assessed infield using Absolute Signal Blocking (ASB)

How to Enrol

Updates for RIW cards and Sydney Trains Gold cards

  • Current Gold card expiry date for POs will be extended from 30 November 2022 to 30 March 2023. Gold cards will be updated and re-issued to reflect the extended expiry date.
  • As a part of the transition to RIW, PO qualifications will be moved from Gold cards to RIW cards for Sydney Trains employees.
  • TfNSW PO Job Roles in RIW will be updated to reflect 30 March 2023 expiry.
  • Assessment results will be updated on RIW card by 30 March 2023.
  • There will be two separate recertification dates. One for online assessment and one for practical assessment based on last completed date. Recertification will be required two years after each assessment is completed.
