Protection Officer Pre-assessment

The PO Pre-assessment is a pre-requisite for becoming a new Track Protection Officer Level 1 (TPO01), authorised to work on the Sydney Trains Network.

It is a formal assessment involving a structured range of activities, where candidates are required to meet the minimum benchmark and be issued a certificate of completion.

The PO Pre-assessment is delivered by Assess Plus, and assesses the skills and behaviours needed to perform the role of a PO.

Learners enrolling in the Track Protection Officer Level 1 (TPO01) course will be required to complete the PO Pre-assessment to be authorised to work on the Sydney Trains Network.

You can view all of the details including how to enrol and the assessment process may be found in the below links:

There are two pathways:

  1. Via TfNSW L&D
  2. Via an Accredited Training Provider (ATP) who delivers the TfNSW licensed TPO01 program on behalf of TfNSW L&D.
NOTE: Enrolment in the TPO01 program via an ATP does not require completion of the PO Pre-assessment, however, authorisation as a Track Protection Officer Level 1 to work on the Sydney Trains Network requires completion of both the PO Pre-assessment and TPO01 program. Nationally recognised units of competency are awarded following completion of the TPO01 program.

NOTE:  If you are already an authorised Protection Officer for the Sydney Trains Network, you are not required to complete the PO Pre-assessment to progress to the next Protection Officer Level
