Sydney Trains releases updated Drug & Alcohol policy and Drug & Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP)

Do you work on the Sydney Trains network? Please be aware that Sydney Trains, Transport and NSW TrainLink maintain separate drug and alcohol policies and procedures.

Ensuring a safe and healthy workplace is one of our key commitments at Sydney Trains. It extends to providing our customers with secure and reliable transport services.

All Transport agency policies require workers to be free of drugs and alcohol while at work. When you work on the Sydney Trains network, you should comply with Sydney Trains Drug and Alcohol Policy and Drug and Alcohol Management Program. Both Policy and the Program have been recently updated.

What’s new? What’s changing?

  • ‘Zero tolerance’ decision-making has been removed. If you fail a drug or alcohol test it could result in disciplinary action, a rehabilitation program and/or dismissal is possible.
  • The use of alternative prescription medicine such as medicinal cannabis has been addressed.
  • Updated definitions and measures for drug and alcohol-free workplace.

Please, remember that the Sydney Trains Drug & Alcohol Policy applies to the following:

  • Sydney Trains rail safety workers
  • Sydney Trains office workers or executives that may not be directly involved in safety critical roles
  • NSW TrainLink and Transport employees working on the Sydney Trains network and facilities
  • External contractors working on the Sydney Trains network and facilities
  • A Sydney Trains worker working from home.
