Protection Officer (PO) Recertification

In 2024-2025, Protection Officer (PO) recertifications will take on a more hands-on approach. Moving away from simulated assessments in controlled environments, the focus will now be on real-world evaluations.

Rail Safety Coaches will assess POs directly in the field, observing their performance during live worksite protection scenarios. This shift ensures that POs demonstrate their skills and competency in actual conditions, enhancing safety and effectiveness across the network. Stay prepared for a more dynamic, practical recertification experience!

Online assessment

Online assessment is now available! POs will receive a notification email from RIW with a direct link to access the assessment. Please ensure the assessment is completed within 2 years of your last completion date.

As for the last recertification, POs will be required to achieve 100% for the online assessment.

Based on the number of attempts for each question, an interaction will be triggered with a Sydney Trains Rail Safety Coach.

The online assessment will be assigned to all POs on the RIW platform and must be completed within 2 years of last completion date.

When accessing the online assessment, click into the payment box to skip payment and proceed to the assessment.
